Table Topper® Review and Giveaway

Table toppers are a disposable, stick-in-place placemat. Now that Eli is eating table foods I have been more aware of germs in restaurants. I haven’t wanted her to eat to finger foods right off of a dirty table This product protects children from germs on table tops. They are BPA-free, PVC-free, and phthalate-free plastic placemats with an adhesive strip on the top and bottom, so that it can’t get tossed on the floor.  I really like these and will keep them in Eli’s diaper bag from now on.
They provide:
A sanitary eating surface that sticks securely in place, (Think of it as a clean table...that fits in your diaper bag.)
On-the-Go protection from germs, dirt & cleaning chemicals on restaurant and food court tables.
Fun and engaging designs that keep your child occupied.  (Not for kid’s Eli’s age, but maybe as they get older).

You can win a package of these table toppers by leaving a comment by March 19, 2009 on this post. I will use Random.org to select a winner. Please be sure to enter your email address. I will contact the winner and he/she has 72 hours to email me his/her mailing address.

Dose Chart for Children's Tylenol and Motrin

I found these really useful charts for dosing Motrin (Ibprofen) and Tylenol (Acetaminophen) for children. You might want to print them and put them with your meds for easy reference. Also, according to what I have read and my pediatrician it is better to give children the dose by weight vs. age.

Grocery Trip

I was asked to post a picture of my most recent shopping trip. I had already started putting them away, but here is most of what I got:

I spent $36 and got $175 in groceries. I normally prefer to shop at Fry's (better prices and I can walk there, but this last week Safeway sent out a booklet in the mail with coupons. I has all kinds of coupons, but one of the most valuble is $10 off $50. Also, if you have a prescription (new or transfer) you get a $30 gift card. Even if you didn't get the coupon book you can go to Safeway (yesterday they had the booklets and samples out). I think it is only the Safeway on Chandler Blvd. and Alma School.  So, a take-home tip for this post is. Even if you prefer one store over another look at the adds and go to the store that has the best prices for what you consume.

Bugalug Review and Giveaway

I have a super cute and useful product to review this time, Bugalug hair accessories. Bugalug hair accessories are functional, reliable and truly stay put.  Not to mention they are available in various styles of barrettes and headbands, come in unique designs and colors. I received a few different styles of the barrettes and one headband to review (all of the prints are adorable).
One of the things I like most about Bugalug is that it is a company that was begun by a stay-at-home mom .

After the birth of her second child, Sundi started a company as a baby products sales rep for Western Canada. She decided to bring some of her newly designed hair clips to sell at trade shows along with these other products.  At the end of each show, she was amazed that the clips were always the best selling items.  Realizing she was on the verge of something big, Sundi decided to focus her attention solely on this entrepreneurial venture that was soon to become “Bugalug” (named after her two children - Kael, her “bug!”, and Kohen, the “lug!”).
Since then, Bugalug has grown quickly.  Bugalug products can be found in more than 250 stores nationally – a number that continues to grow each month.  The company is also branching out into the United States and is looking at Japan, Australia, and South Africa.  Bugalug has also introduced innovative no-slip headbands! The first of their kind, these beautiful ribbon headbands are taking the hair accessory market by storm.
For Sundi, Bugalug has allowed her to achieve a balance between being the stay-at-home mom she so wanted to be, and the career woman she knew she couldn’t let go of.

Bugalug Barrettes

Bugalug barrettes are created with a unique to the market silicon gel grip on the inside of every barrette. This grippy strip ensurse that the clip does not budge.  The design is simple and trendy to appeal to a wide range of ages and styles. Since Eli can’t tell me whether these are comfortable or not I them on and they didn’t pull or slip in my hair either.

Bugalug Headbands

Bugalug headbands use an innovative, patent-pending design - comfortable toggle -  that allows you to make the headband the perfect size for your little one. I tried it on and wore it all day and it didn’t slip at all. I have very fine hair and that is usually an impossible feat.  Some headbands are even reversible, making them even more functional!

For our readers the creator of Bugalug has offered an adorable hand-made card with 6 hair clips (barrettes). To win check out Bugalug’s website come back and tell me your favourite pattern by midnight  this Wednesday, March 11, 2009.  I will use random.org to select a winner. Offer open only to residents of the United States and Canada.

Frugal Friday

For this Frugal Friday entry I decided to post a somewhat obscure and sorta weird way I found to save money. Take it or leave it! I have found in the last 9 months :) that infant products are WAY overpriced. Since Elianna has been teething she has been consuming Tylenol and Motrin pretty frequently. I've found that the children tylenol suspension is much cheaper than the infant version for both of these. Especially since this week the children one was on sale at Fry's and I had a coupon. You have to be super careful to calculate the appropriate dosage for your infant, but it can be done.
The child version of tylenol has:                        The infant version of tylenol has:
160 mg in 5 mL/1 teaspoon                                160 mg in 1.6 mL

Pretty easy to figure out what the appropriate dose for your child is. Just to give you an idea the bottle of childrens I purchased for $4.99 -$1 coupon has 3840mg in the whole bottle. The larger of the infant bottles has 3000mg and runs abou 8.99 and you can rarely find a coupon for it (although Fry's takes any tylenol coupon for any tylenol product, so I could get $1 off).

Here is a link to save $1 on your next motrin purchase

The child version of motrin has:                        The infant version of motrin has:
100 mg in 5 mL/1 teaspoon                                50 mg in 1.25 mL

Anyway, if you feel comfortable with your math skills this is a great way to save money for almost half the price you get 840 more mg of the meds. One a practical note the infant tylenol is much more concentrated so you have to give less to your child. If they have a hard time taking meds that could be better. Eli loves the dye-free cherry flavor. Also, you can check store brand pricing for over-the-counter medications. You can put this idea into practice with any medications. Excedrin Migraine has the exact same content as Excedrin Extra Strength, but they usually have a very different price tag. Here is a coupon for $2 off your next Exedrin purchase.  Also, don't hesitate to ask your doctor if there is a generic of whatever he/she is prescribing that will save you a bundle and all it takes is a question.
