City Deals Giveaway!!!!

I am happy to announce a new contest for my blog.  City Deals has offered 2 of my readers 2 tickets to Harkin’s Theaters. Even if you don’t win the tickets everyone can get a deal and save money with this contest. City deals sells discounted and deeply discounted gift certificates and gift cards to popular restaurant, entertainment, and other local businesses. You can save up to 90% on their certificates.

The reason I like City Deals is that I can save money on places I would go normally go to. For example, you can save 5% on gift cards to Cheesecake Factory, 15-40% at Buca di Beppo, and 50% at CrackerJax Family Fun Park. If you were to invest $$ somewhere it would be hard to even get the 5% return on your investment, let alone 40%!
I will caution you. Sometimes we say, “I bought it because I had a gift card!” Gift cards are $ and they should be treated as such, but used appropriately you can save a lot of money. Why not save 5-90% on your next date night. City Deals is a great place to stock up and have gift card available. I love it when someone suggests we go out to eat at such and such and I have a gift card available for that place. I prefer it if the gift card was a gift, but I’m happy if I saved money on the gift card.  Also, they make great last minute gifts (Why stop at Walgreens and not save any $$$?) and they are great gifts for people who just had a baby, have a hospitalized family member, or just to be nice (these are all from personal experience. We are SO BLESSED by your kindness! We even received some anonymously!) Note that shipping is 99 cents, so make sure you are saving at least that much ;-) )

Now for the giveaway! There are tons of ways to get entries in this contest.
     1. The first one is obligatory and that is to sign up to get the City Deals email blast (their newsletter). After you sign up comment on this post that you did.
     2. Sign up to get my blog updates (or if you already do just let me know that you do) and comment that you did.
     3. Become a fan on Facebook of Kiki’s Korner (or let me know you already are) and comment that you did.
     4. Post the following as your facebook status, “ I just signed up at www.hantla.com/kiki  to win 2 Harkins movie theater tickets.  You can too. “
     5. YOU CAN GET 5 ENTRIES if you make your first purchase on City Deals. Make 5 comments (i.e. 1. I made my first purchase, 2. I made my first purchase. Etc)

You have until July 31, 2010 at 11:59pm PST to enter. The winners will be chosen by random.org and announced August 1, 2010

Dum Dum alternative: YummyEarth Organic Lollipops, Assorted Flavors, 150-Count Container

I learned very quickly that a dum dum can go a long way with a toddler. They are great to keep in your purse or diaper bag for a quick treat. They are wonderful! On our drive to Florida I would surprise Elianna every once in a while with a dum dum. It really helped the trip. They also work really well in the waiting room at our pediatricians office. However, I wasn't happy to be givng her overprocessed corn syrup, food coloring, and preservatives on a stick. So when I cam across YummyEarth Organic Lollipops on Amazon.com I was really excited. If you sign up for their subscribe and save program you can get them for about 9 cents per lollipop. NOT BAD.

Product Features

  • One 30 ounce plastic bin containing 150 lollipops
  • Mix of Sour Apple Tart, Pomegranate Pucker, Mango Tango, TooBerry Blueberry, Googly Grape, Strawberry Smash, Very Very Cherry, Wet-Face Watermelon
  • Organic; allergen-free; gluten-free; GMO-free; egg-free; soy-free; nut-free; casein-free; dairy-free
  • All-natural: fruit extracts; red cabbage and purple carrots for color; no artificial dyes or flavors

Birth Control. What to do?

As a nurse and elder’s wife I am frequently asked weird questions (questions like, “do you know what this red thing is on my finger, “what do you think about medications for depression,”  “have you ever seen something like this,” and most often, “what do you think about birth control?”. Bring ‘em on. I love it! The only thing that I love more than being a nurse is being a mom. I wouldn’t have left the nursing field for anything else. It’s crazy fun. I remember being in the middle of a code (that’s when someone is dying) and doing crazy fun things and thinking, “I am getting paid for this!” Ok, back to the reason I am writing this. Birth Control!
Wow! What a topic! I am sure years, months, and even days from now I will have more thoughts, but for now here are some written down. In this blog post I am not going to deal with the medical implications and even dangers of using birth control (i.e. blood clots, gallbladder problems, strokes, cardiac arrest, and death). It seems like our society had deemed those problems an acceptable loss with the “freedom” the use of “The Pill” brings.
Mary Kassian, the founder of Girls Gone Wise has the following list that I find really helpful in discussing birth control. “Medical hazards aside, the pill has supported the advancement of ideas, attitudes and behaviors that are markedly unbiblical. For example:
1. The mindset that sex can be separated from marriage and children
2. The mindset that sex is primarily about personal pleasure
3. The thought that there ought to be no consequence to sex outside of marriage
4. An increased tolerance & acceptance of immorality
5. A decreased commitment to marriage and family
6. An unbiblical attitude toward children (commodity or burden)
7. A negative attitude toward motherhood
8. A negation of the distinctions between male and female
9. A devaluation of woman’s role in the home
10. The attitude that marriage/family are of lesser priority & value than self/career
11. The exaltation of self and devaluation of others (exalt individual over community)
12. The illusion that we can control our own fertility
13. The focus on personal rights rather than responsibility
14. The mindset that women have the right and power to set their own course
15. The mindset that humans determine what sex, marriage and gender are all about

I would add, “The possibility of inducing an early-term abortion. “ Here is what I know. "The Pill" is just one pill. There are varieties that vary in the hormone content and "protection." Basically the error margin for that "protection" is 0.2%-8%. However, the problem with those percentages is that it is unknown whether some fertilized eggs are "miscarried" due to a volatile environment for implantation.
Technically the % could be higher if that is the case. There are a lot of moral/medical/ethical implications to those facts. Basically, the only method of contraception that one can be 100% certain does not prevent implantation of fertilized eggs is abstinence (not what anyone in our culture likes to hear). The truth still remains that the use of those methods aren't beyond God's sovereignty and we must always remember that children are a blessings from the Lord regardless of the use of any contraceptive method.

With that in mind and like everything else in our lives the heart is what it boils down to. If you search google for birth control you will read statements  (very similar to what Mary identified in her list) like these, " find the method that is best for us", "Only you can decide what is best for you", "your birth control options", "protection", "take control of your fertility", "Birth control "Take Charge" plan", "take control of your body." So, what does our culture teach us that birth control is? How does a Christian woman decide whether or not she should take “the pill?” you should take the birth control pill? Is your mindset toward sex, marriage, and children based on The Bible or what our culture teaches us? Do you see children as blessings from the Lord? Have you prayerfully considered taking the pill, or thoughtlessly taken it because it is what everyone does? Are you trying to “control” your life by using “the pill?”
Please feel free to comment on this post. I’m interested in a discussion among the readers of this blog.

They are delivered to your house free (2-day delivery) and you don't pay taxes. I prefer pamper's diapers, but they have other brands too.
