On the Supreme Court Upholding of Partial Birth Abortion Ban
Hilarie says this is an erosion of constitutional rights. Barack's main comment is that outlawing partial birth abortion restricts women's rights to choose.
By definition any ban of any sort is a restriction of freedoms, an erosion of rights. But we must consider which right is a greater right, the right to live or the right to choose to abort.
What is the difference between partial birth abortion and deciding to murder your baby minutes after it's been born? What's the difference between abortion at any stage and murder of a new born. The only difference is that the baby has a different location and a different degree of dependence. You could argue that it also has a different degree of development, but that argument won't hold water when we're talking about other forms of murder. Murdering a baby or murdering an adult are not crimes of different levels of atrocity based on the degree of development of the victim.

I understand that this blog post likely won't change anybody's mind, but if you are a proponent of abortion rights, challenge yourself for an instant. Are you being consistent? There is no question that when the Supreme Court's ruling has restricted women's rights. But the rights that it has granted to the children who otherwise would have had their life terminated is a much greater good.My position brings me to a logical end that abortion at any stage must be illegal. Right to life is a more important right than a right to choose.
If you are against this ruling, consistency of thinking must lead you to believe that a mother should be able to kill her newborn if it posed too great of an emotional, financial, or other burden on her (http://www.hantla.com/blog/pivot/entry.php?id=247). Likewise, an infant's right to life must not trump a mother's right to freedom, to control her body, her assets, her desires. Where does it stop? I do not say this to insinuate that abortion rights advocates want babies killed, only to point out the inconsistency in the position and to hopefully reveal the horrendousness of the atrocities that take place every day in abortion clinics.
Praise God that this type of abortion was banned; it is evidence that the public, the legislature, and the courts are not completely blind to the brutality and the reality that abortion is murder. So many are so fearful that this will begin to erode abortion rights in this country because the logic of the argument of women's rights has no place to stand as soon as any form of abortion is recognized to be murder. The demarcation of the vaginal canal (or the abdominal wall in c-sections) as the point of humanness is an arbitrary one, wherein prior to passing such a point, one is simply a "fetus" or tissue which only is a potential life with no inalienable rights and and after passing such a point one is human with a right to live.
I pray that the fears expressed by Hilarie, Barack, and others come to fruition. My goal in those prayers is not to take rights away from women or any other group, but to give rights to those who do not have any, those who have not yet been born but are alive inside their mothers.
